We now know that the Universe is far bigger than what we thought it would be. Imagine that humanity has discovered, or at least thinks it has discovered, a set of rules that define how galaxies are formed. Now, after years of thinking that we are on the right path, scientists have discovered that there are more galaxies out there that should not have existed in the first place. The conception that we were so sure of was shattered within a single day in which the impossible proved itself possible.
Renowned names in history have made it clear that time is not measured equally for every entity in the Universe. We do not know for sure if there is anyone out there, but what we do know is that, if we look at one specific point in space, we are practically looking through a timeline. The further we can see, the deeper into time we dive.
This is particularly known because of the way light travels and even though we can see the light of many stars above us, that light might just have to catch up with our timeline after its star died thousands of years, if not millennia ago. So astrologists attempted to see how many galaxies there are out there with the aid of infra-red. What is fascinating to know is that infra-red can detect faded light from far away galaxies, but these galaxies’ light should have been long gone.
We are talking about celestial groups that were formed around 1 billion years after the Big Bang had occurred and what is also incomprehensible is that these galaxies amount to the thousands and they are bigger that what anybody could even dream of imagining. There are worlds out there which we will never truly see or explore, but which nurture evolution worth of 14 billion years.
To understand how big this phenomenon is, Katrina Caputi of the Astronomical Institute located in Groningen declared that scientists have “uncovered 547 new massive galaxies”. The number is just staggering and this might actually be solid proof that there is life out there. If you take a moment and think about it, it is virtually impossible for us to be the only intelligent beings in the Universe.
There are more galaxies out there that would make 6.000 years of human evolution seem like nothing. It is some sort of disappointment for all those who think we have come a long way. We have barely even begun to live.
