If you are a Game of Thrones fan, and you probably are, you might be interested that we will have a movie adaptation. Yes, we are talking about a Game of Thrones movie, which has been confirmed, or brushed off as an irrelevant subject by George R.R. Martin himself. Or was it not? Not many details are known about the movie, but is pretty much everything we know so far.
The British tabloid widely known as The Daily Star interviewed George and thought it might be interesting to give the internet some food for thought. So, after the Emmys, George was asked whether a Game of Thrones movie would ever come into being. Surprisingly, George said yes and this piece of news alone is enough to drive readers and viewers wild.
But Martin did say that “he will not be involved” in the process. George recognized that he is a slow writer and that he has much to work on before the entire deal is sealed. He said that he had two more books to write, a lot of things to do and that he is very aware that his fans are enraged because he doesn’t write with a 600 horse power engine.
But if you read until now, this is where all the fun stops. HBO representatives quickly took action and told BuzzFeed that the rumor was all made up and that no such plans were set in motion. Then the number one news player just joined the party: Westeros.org, what you could call your main Game of Thrones news source crushed the Daily Star, ensuring readers and viewers that all of it was made up.
The internet reacted quickly and the prospect of having a Game of Thrones movie actually caught the attention of many fans. But could we ever suspect such an epic development from HBO? Or anyone for that matter? The odds are not exactly in a movies’ favor. There are so many details to cover and such a long historical period of time that needs to be covered that putting the events in a movie would just not be right.
Maybe a movie with Robert’s rebellion? Or about the war in between the first men and the Others? They might seem interesting, but very hard to do. Maybe, in time, we might see a Game of Thrones movie but, for the time being, the answer is no.
