Tennessee Grandmother Said There Wasn’t Any Room in the Car
On Saturday, a motorist stopped by the white Ford Explorer driven by 62-year-old Leimome Cheeks. When the individual saw how the woman was transporting her grandchildren, the motorist whipped out his phone and uploaded the clip to social media.
According to the eyewitness, the suspect got out of the car and opened the trunk, where she kept two dog kennels. The motorist was mortified when he saw two small children climbing out of the cages.
Shortly after that, the woman was taken into custody and charged with child endangerment.
Based on the police report, the Tennessee grandmother drove from Whitehaven to Collierville, a distance of approximately 25 miles, with the kids inside the dog kennel. Even more appalling is the fact that there were almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit inside the truck. The authorities determined that the compartment did not have an AC unit or any means of recirculating air.
When confronted, Mrs. Cheeks told the arresting officers that there was no more room in her car. She also mentioned that she regularly checked up on her grandchildren during the ride from Whitehaven.
Camilla Cowan, Cheeks’ next-door neighbor declared that the Tennessee grandmother saw nothing wrong with locking the children inside the hot trunk. She also mentioned that the woman loves her grandchildren and that she would never harm them.
Conclusion
The Tennessee grandmother was released later that day after posting bail. However, she’s expected back in court on Monday.
The motorist who posted the movie online wants to remain unknown.
