The Romanian tennis player takes an easy victory versus the British Brady. Simona Halep beats Naomi Brady 6-4, 6-2 in just 1 hour and 10 minutes.
The third round of the Aegon Classic in Birmingham has ended with a resounding victory for the Romanian tennis player on Tuesday.
In her first appearance at the Aegon Classic Simona Halep proved why she is one of the top ranked players in the world.
Naomi Brady declared that she is not disappointed with her result versus Halep and further stated that she proved her ability to serve by managing a 4 points in a set against the worlds number 3.
Simona Halep declared that she was lucky in the first set. Halep said that her confidence is up after winning in just 2 sets and that her opponents serve was very strong. This is Simona Halep’s first game on the grass this year.
Simona was also grateful to her Romanian fans for attending and supporting her during the match.
Although she does not play on grass often Simona stated that the terrain fits her style and she did well.
Simona Halep is the world’s number 3 ranked WTA player in the world with Serena Williams beeing the number one.
Born in Constanta (ROU) on the 27th of September 1991 Halep has won eleven WTA tournaments starting in 2013 with six wins.
Extremely popular in her home country of Romania she started taking tennis lessons with the support of her father.
Simona was under criticism several times, one of the reasons was the unpopular change of her trainer in 2013 after she had one several big matches that year under his tutelage.
Ilie Nastase the former number 1 professional ATP tennis player in the 70’s and a fellow Romanian has sparked national debates in his home country after criticizing Simona Halep.
Halep refused to represent Romania in the Fed Cup against Canada, and Nastase claimed amoung other things that he was disspointed in her for not being a “patriotic”
Simona stated that every time she plays she plays for Romania.
The national debates that sparked were centered around the fact that while in the past the country’s great tennis players were supported and trained by the state, she has no obligation to play in any national team since she was trained for many years solely on her father’s expenses.
