The developer FromSoftware is well-known for developing the Dark Souls series, but this wasn’t the first achievement of the studio. During the ruling of the PS3 console, the game dev established its landmark gameplay items through Demon’s Souls. The game wasn’t so widely popular, but it still established a dedicated fanbase. To their disappointment, the game won’t remain available for long, as the servers will go permanently offline on February 28th, 2018.
The Demon’s Souls servers will be permanently shut down
There’s no need to panic, as Demon’s Souls is mainly a single-player game, and you can complete it without an internet connection. However, it also had a multiplayer option, and a series of exquisite features which required a connection to function. These included the ability to send messages to other players, or to find out where certain player deaths occurred.
This means you won’t be able to invade vulnerable players and kill them, which might be good. However, you also won’t get outside help when you need to defeat a tough enemy. This might turn out problematic for new players, who might find it impossible to finish the game. As your level increases, the game gets more difficult, which sometimes is a bother even for skilled players.
Demon’s Souls will get even more difficult
When questioned about the situation, Atlus, the US publisher, said this difficulty was the one which made the game for what it was. Also, it prepared the players for even more challenging titles, such as the upcoming Dark Souls games, Bloodborne, or Nioh.
“The unforgiving nature of the game has provided countless enjoyable moments of frustration and anger, but also the elation felt from beating something so challenging.”
Demon’s Souls was released for PS3, and this is currently the only console it is available on. With all these changes, the developer might consider releasing a version for PS4 as well, as the game could always benefit from a remaster.
