On Monday, February 27th, federal authorities took 18-year-old Diego Hernandes-Rivera and 22-year-old Miguel Alvarez-Flores into custody, after discovering their involvement with the kidnapping of two underage girls and death of another in a satanic ritual. The suspects have been identified as being part of the notorious gang MS-13, said Houston authorities on Friday, March 3rd.
The suspects have been charged with aggravated murder and kidnapping and could spend the rest of their lives behind bars, as both are first-degree felonies. The judge set the bond at $300,000 for each perpetrator and immigration detainer said they will remain behind bars.
The lifeless body of the 15-year-old girl who died in the satanic ritual was found on February 16th with gunshot wounds to the chest and face. Sgt. Chris Sturdivant, homicide detective, said that the victim’s identity has not yet been officially confirmed. However, authorities suspect the victim was reported missing in January in Jersey Village, Texas.
The homicide detective said the girls, aged 14 to 16, were taken to an apartment and held there against their will. He suspects the victims succumbed to the allure of gang life and told reporters they were fed drugs and alcohol and forced to engaged in sexual relationships with the kidnappers.
One of the victims said the deceased was killed in the satanic ritual because she knocked over the gang’s shrine dedicated to a satanic saint. The girls told investigators that Miguel Alvarez-Flores saw fit to make a peace offering to the statue shaped like a cigarette.
“He returned from the statue and told the entire group that the beast did not want a material offering but wanted a soul”, said Maria Jackson, District Judge, during the defendants’ first court appearance on Wednesday, March 8th.
Shortly afterward, as one of the victims recalls, the 15-year-old girl was gone. The case comes as the 45th President of the United States is taking drastic measures against criminal immigrants residing illegally within the country’s borders. Donald Trump is planning to create an agency that would serve the victims of crimes committed by such immigrants, called Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE). The agency would be integrated as a branch of the Department of Homeland Security.
