Putin’s Meddling In Syria

Putin’s meddling in Syria is not something that the world is treating lightly. After Russia’s intervention in the region, an international coalition was formed that is specifically asking the country to back down from attacking the Syrian opposition. Putin said one thing and is doing the other, so the world is asking him to focus on extremists.

It is still unclear whether Russia is aiming for a goal that will help the world or to restore its former glory. As far as we know, Putin is more inclined towards helping Syria’s President, Bashar al-Assad, and giving him military support, than actually fighting ISIS and put an end to terrorism once and for all.

The United States, France, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Quatar and Germany have all declared in a statement that they “express our deep concern with regard to the Russian military build-up in Syria and especially ‎the attacks by the Russian Air Force on Hama, Homs and Idlib … which led to civilian casualties and did not target Da’esh.”

In case you are wondering, Da’esh is just another name for the terrorist organization ISIS.

It is widely known that Russia issued two airstrikes on Tuesday this week, targeting a region that the U.S. deems as non-ISIS territory. We are specifically talking about the camp in Idlb, a rebel group which is receiving support from the CIA. This group has been in combat with ISSI for more than a year and reports suggested that nobody died during the Russian airstrike.

The bad news is that the Syrian activist known as Khadaier Khusafa declared to CNN that 17 people were killed during the Russian strike in Talbesieh, 11 people were killed in Zafaraniya on Wednesday and another 46 people need immediate medical attention because of these attacks.

Needless to say, not only authorities are concerned about Russia’s moves, but so is the entire world. This has proven that Putin is willing to play the dangerous game and this is keeping everybody under pressure. It was already scary that Putin’s speech implied he is willing to make some sacrifices and take the beat, but this situation, if untackled, is going to escalate into something much worse.

Some specialists say that Russia has already won and that Putin has the upper hand in the political fight. With Obama crippled by the emotional situation home and a feeble diplomatic relationship with Russia, we simply have to hope that things will get better.
