The pornography industry has certainly become a multi-billion dollar affair – you just need to look at the staggering amount of porn sites on the web, and the large percentage of them which have or require subscriptions. And like any industry posting revenues ending in nine or more figures, it has its own enthusiasts who aim to shoot for the stars. Only that in this case major porn website Pornhub is taking the saying serious.
The adult website has posted a YouTube video last Wednesday in which it announces the start of a public crowdfunding campaign for a concept never tried before: a pornographic movie shot during space travel.
The movie, entitled “Sexploration” would feature porn actors Johnny Sins and Eva Lovia as they perform intercourse while travelling in a space ship, which the site’s vice-president Corey Price – who explains the whole concept in the video – hopes will be shot sometimes during 2016.
However, the viability of the project depends entirely on how it will be received by porn enthusiasts, as the site decided to make the movie entirely crowd-funded – with the asking goal being a staggering $3.4 million. Of course, most of the cost would go towards actually planning the mission and renting a spacecraft, with the site’s owners probably aware of the fact that despite it being a massive publicity stunt, it would never generate revenue to fully cover the costs were they to fund it.
The campaign is hosted by crowdfunding website IndieGoGo, and has garnered to date less than $20,000 in 4 days, less than 1 percent of the required sum. There are, however, 57 days left until the campaign finishes, more than enough time for porn enthusiasts to pick up the rate. As with normal crowdfunding campaigns, Pornhub offers tiered rewards depending on the amount donated – and they just couldn’t slip the chance of naming the highest tier “Uranus”, which you can get if you donate $150,000 and will get you one of the astronaut suits the porn stars will have used in the movie, if anybody is actually interested in them.
Jokes about the space porn movie aside, it could actually prove relevant from a scientific standpoint. Until now, there have been no confirmed reports of attempted sexual intercourse in microgravity, and some researchers even doubt it is possible due to certain changes which happen with the human blood flow while in space. This overly non-scientific publicity might help prepare future colonizing effort in this regard – a thing to point out next time someone calls you on your porn addiction.
