On Sunday, a member of Carrol Carmichael’s family called the authorities to report a stabbing at women’s Arbor Club Apartments home.
According to the police, the family member found 82-year-old Carrol Carmichael in a pool of blood just before 10 a.m. The first responders transported the elderly victim to the hospital.
Carmichael told the authorities that an unknown person entered her house and stabbed her. The ER doctors established that Mrs. Carmichael had stabbing injuries on her back and deep ear-to-chin cut. She also had what appeared to be defensive wounds on her hands.
The victim remembers someone apologizing for what he was about to do before being gravely injured.
Pensacola Police Department officers scoured the area around Mrs. Carmichael’s house and, on Monday morning, arrested the man behind the attack.
According to the police report, the knife-wielding suspect, later identified as Tyler Hyden Owen, a Pensacola teen, enter Carmichael’s house via the unlocked door. Moreover, based on the wounds’ pattern, Carmichael wasn’t facing Owen during the attack.
The man later confessed that he crept up on his victim who was sitting on her recliner, back turned to the door.
Owen allegedly apologized to his victim for stabbing her but him not eating for four days pushed him to take action. While searching Owen’s apartment, the authorities found Mrs. Carmichael’s walled, the knife Owen used, a blood-splattered tank top, and, a coin-filled jar.
According to the doctors, the 82-year-old woman is expected to survive the attack.
