A North Carolina driver was charged with first-degree murder on Monday after he killed a teenager. The individual allegedly ran over the teen because he stole his cellphone. The incident occurred at around 2 a.m. The authorities are still investigating the case.
North Carolina Driver Wrecks Property While Pursuing Phone Thief.
According to a Fuquay-Varina Police Department spokesperson, David Wendell Dixon, the driver accused of murder, chased his victim for several minutes before running him over.
Based on the police report, on Monday, Dixon was in Walmart’s parking lot when he was approached by the victim and two other men.
The victim, later identified as 16-year-old Monterio Devon Whitehead, went to Dixon’s car and asked him to borrow his cellphone.
Dixon told him that he could have the cellphone. Whitehead grabbed the cell and bolted. Dixon fired up the engine and pursued Whitehead and his gang.
The chase led Dixon and Whitehead to Home Depot’s parking lot. To avoid being caught by Dixon, Whitehead jumped a fence, ending up in someone’s backyard.
Allegedly, Dixon went through the fence in pursuit of the teenage thief. Several minutes later, Dixon caught up with Whitehead and ran him over.
Upon seeing the North Carolina man drive through his property, the homeowner called the police.
Minutes later, the law enforcement officers took Dixon into custody and charged him with one count of first-degree murder. Whitehead was declared dead at the scene.
The teenage thief’s accomplices have yet to be identified. Dixon was still in the area when the authorities arrived.
Conclusion
The North Carolina driver was booked into the Wake County Detention Facility. He will remain there until his trial. No bond was ordered for Dixon.
Following Dixon’s arrest, the authorities have yet to determine why the individual stooped to murder.
