NASA talks about a major discovery which may be related to the existence of water on Mars.
For many years, the existence of life on Mars has been a great mystery. Because of the harsh conditions, it was believed that there couldn’t develop any form of life. But now NASA talks about a major discovery which may be related to the existence of water on this planet.
Mars, also known as the „red planet,” is the 4th one from the Sun. With its thin atmosphere, Mars is known to have a diverse landscape, made up of craters, volcanoes, deserts etc.
Entitled the „Mars Mystery,” the news made people on social media speculate. Some say the discovery is related to aliens, others say it is related to potatoes or even Matt Damon’s recent movie, The Martian.
However, the mystery is going to be revealed by NASA at a press conference taking place at NASA’s headquarters. Judging about the scientists that are going to take part in this conference (Lujendra Ojha, Mary Beth Wilhelm, Alfred McEwen), there is a high probability that the mystery is about water having been discovered on Mars. This could totally change the way humans perceived their plant neighbor until now.
Professor Michio Kaku stated that this may be an interesting discovery, as the water there may be used for irrigation, fuel or even for drinking purposes.
The public eagerly waits for the news to be confirmed. Their passion increased even more since Curiosity, a rover sent on Mars, transmitted images with the landscape there.
The researchers have long known that there is water on Mars, but it is situated in a hardly accessible place, under the surface of the soil.
“This potential announcement is big. Really big. Because it vastly increases the chance that there could be, for example, microbial life on Mars,” stated Kaku.
What’s more, the existence of water also means that there may be microbial life, which could lead the discovery even further. Scientist will have to discover if human life will be possible on this planet.
In the present, NASA leads five more missions on Mars.
For all of you passionate about this subject, make sure you don’t miss the press conference!
