The boys are out of danger, but afraid to return home to their violent mother.
A 36-year-old mother from Greenfield, Indiana could face up to 12 years in prison if the jury finds her guilty on two counts of battery after she inflicted multiple injuries on her two sons. The boys, aged 7 and 9, found their Christmas presents hidden in their mother’s closet and opened them. When Sascha Collins woke up to find the boys have already unwrapped their presents, she beat them violently.
Authorities believe the mother has a history of alcohol and drug abuse. Furthermore, her 7-year-old youngest son is mentally challenged. The local authorities have been informed about the incident by a neighbor, after Sascha Collins’ teenage daughter, aged 16, returned home Sunday morning, December 18th, and found her brothers crying and with bruises all over them.
According to the teenage daughter’s official statement, Sascha Collins has been drinking excessively lately and snorted hydrocodone the night before the incident. Law enforcement officers support her claim.
“The children had bruises and marks all over them”, said Derek Towle, acting Police Chief.
Moreover, the girl also said that after the incident the violent mother stormed all over the house screaming that her children were ungrateful and had “the worst kids ever”.
The court documents stated that even though the victims did not require medical attention, they were afraid to return home. One reason for this, according to the prosecution, is that Sascha Collins reportedly flung her sons against the walls, beat them with a belt, and even bit them.
Sascha Collins could not be reached for comment. Also, her lawyer said he did not want to discuss details of the case with the press.
Nevertheless, when questioned by the investigators, the violent mother says that she recalls “excessively spanking” her sons. However, she said she does not remember the incident in detail. Sascha Collins admits that she may have gone overboard, and told the law enforcement officers that she “just lost it” that day, having discovered her home in a messy condition, with presents scattered all over the floor. Also, in her statement, she says that not all bruises were caused by her, but were a direct result of the boys constantly fighting one another. If the jury finds Ms. Collins guilty, she could spend her next 12 years behind bars.
