917 people were killer this year in police shootings.
In a recent debate that sparked over the police officers using deadly force in orde to stop law-breaking citizens a couple of grave facts have resurfaced. According to a statistic, mentally ill people are more likely to be gunned down by police officers.
According to a report published by an advocacy group, it would seem that mentally disabled people are 16 times most likely to be killed by a police officer than any other culprits. Going into further details, each year more than 1000 people are killed by the police in a law enforcement exercise. The same statistic states that 16 percent of victims either display symptoms consistent with a severe mental disease or that they have a condition which they left unchecked.
Moreover, the report doesn’t stop at simply looking at the death toll when it comes to brutal law enforcement. Numbers mention the fact that almost 4 percent of all US citizens have a form of mental disability. And, when it came to calling the authorities in one case or another, those citizens generated approximately 10 percent of all emergency call.
The situation becomes, even more, ghastly when we take a close look at the prison occupation rate. It was determined that one in five US adults with mental illnesses occupy either a prison bed or a cell. I would seem the whole situation was brought to the attention by the recent in the cities of New York, South Carolina and Missouri. It was here where police officer where force to shoot down several unarmed individuals.
As stated, all data has been gathered by an advocacy group entitled The Treatment Advocacy Center. Moreover, it would seem that the information has reached the group from different sources including mass media, several blogs, and even police reports. According to their finding, it would seem that each year, approximately 1000 people are killed by police officers.
This year alone, the police force managed to amass a death toll of approximately 917 US citizens. Moreover, according to other sources, the death toll could be even greater than the initial estimates. Unfortunately, there are documents deemed as reliable when it comes to the real number of people being killed in a police shooting.
However, it would seem that the FBI has taken a great interest in the situation. Hence, as of now, the Federal Bureau of Intelligence is setting up a large database, which is likely to shed some light regarding these incidents.
