Mark Zuckerberg Announces $5 Million Donation To Scholarships for Immigrant Students

$5 Million Donation To Scholarships for Immigrant Students

Mark Zuckerberg is one filthy rich person ever since the Facebook idea slowly transformed into the most successful business recipe of our times. Facebook still assimilates giant amounts of money and it seems that for the tech giant the only way is up.

Celebrity calls for social responsibility and this is exactly what Mark Zuckerberg is trying, by helping immigrant students with heavy donations. The Facebook CEO just announced that he, together with his wife, donated $5 million to a college scholarship fund for 400 students in the Bay Area, all born outside US.

US regulations don’t allow for foreign citizens to enroll in student loan programs and with this serious donation, Zuckerberg is supporting education for the less fortunate ones. If we live in a world that promotes equality, then all people should have equal rights for education. And if rights depend on resources, then resources must be provided by societies to people’s benefit from the right to education.

Mark Zuckerberg and unofficially Facebook are making a good statement here, by placing the biased ones under the spotlights, especially when it comes to the so necessary education for people and societies together helping progress.

The donation was announced in a Facebook post on Wednesday and is directed to The Dream US, founded in 2013 by Carlos Guttierez, former Commerce Secretary. The program has raised by now more that $80 million, according to sources from the Wall Street Journal. The money will take the shape of scholarships addressed to students who qualified from the administration’s deffered action program, aimed to delay deportations for many young immigrants.

These kids can legally attend schools in US and can have a normal life, be integrated and eventually work legally in the US territory.

Zuckerberg declared that his $5 million donation will be directed to 400 immigrants in the San Francisco Bay Area. Students can attend to these scholarships in New York, Florida, New Mexico, Texas, California and Arizona. The $5 million donation to scolarships for immigrant students should be only the small step made into the realm of an equally treated society that capitalism only promotes on paper.
