League of Legends Was Historical This Year
League of Legends was historical this year, not because of the game itself, but because of the players who have set standards and groundbreaking records. This year’s spotlight was taken by the Korean team known as SKTelecom T1, or more widely known as SKT, who have demonstrated that with sheer will, passion and work they can dominate anything. And this was not the first time they have done so.
Yes, perhaps what is most astonishing about this team is that they won the League of Legends World Championship twice. The only extra step that they have to make is to achieve this goal consecutively. SKT won their first championship back in 2013, after the game’s third season had ended. Now they are back as world champions of 2015 and it looks like these guys do not want to give up on their well-deserved title.
But SKT’s performance is not the only one that should be commended. While they did achieve their ultimate goal and are now known worldwide for how well they play, we also need to give a shout out to the team known as KOO, who were also Korean players and made it into the finals. This was the year in which Korea literally took over the professional scene. This country is practically shouting that they are the kings of eSports.
As for SKT, they are now officially the first team in League of Legends history who have won two tournaments. This has yet to be obtained by any other team in the competitive scene until now and it serves as a great example that it can be done, it is possible and if you work hard enough you can definitely do it.
But this is not exactly something that can be taken lightly by the rest of the world. League of Legends started off as a Western game which gradually took over the world. More and more players are giving in to the game every year, but there is a moment when you cannot help but wonder if it’s worth putting in so much effort anymore if those guys are so high up that you cannot even see them.
League of Legends was historical this year and there is no doubt that it will continue to be so. The major issue might be that the game will eventually become regional. If Koreans and Koreans alone are the only people in the world who are good at this game, then let’s just leave them be and move to another game.
