LCS Contracts Less Of A Burden
The eSports scene is an entertaining one, yet rather difficult for all those who maintain it. And when we are talking about the ones who are maintaining it we are not talking about the public, but of the pro players who work day and night to maintain their skill level required to entertain their audiences. The LCS can be a brutal environment for young players and there seem to be some new adjustments brought forward that will make LCS contracts less of a burden.
League of legends is expected to throw a big show in its sixth competitive season, yet this does not change the fact that the players behind the game are teenagers who are starting their careers at the age of 16 or above. They are finishing high school and they have to think about every decision they make carefully. If they are going to work as eSports players, they practically have to give up college and pursue this goal in a later period of their lives.
Yet this choice is rather tricky, because you never know when your career as an eSports player will end. It is totally up to you, but not that much really. Practically, your career ends when the fans do not want you anymore or when there is a new star on the horizon that looks like he or she will take the spotlight for a very, very long time. In short, you have to be like Faker, Korea’s top League of Legends star who simply blows everybody’s mind when he is playing.
But this also involves a lot of work and League players are known for working as much as possible to get their game up. Still, the Koreans are beating westerners on a regular basis. One can keep going on until they realize that there is not much to move toward anymore.
This is why LCS contracts are undergoing some changes, allowing more flexibility for the young players who are entering the scene. Contract lengths will be adjusted so that they fit players’ needs and to make sure that they get the exact amount of money they deserve from it. Also, there are people who are making efforts to ensure that the players are covered should they ever encounter a difficult personal situation.
Why are these changes being made now? Imagine that there is a player in the world who has a 10 year contract, but he is not sure whether he will get his money or not. This is why there are efforts to make LCS contracts less of a burden.
