Hungry Shark Gets The Legendary Slap
We humans like to talk about attitude and how it always matters, but attitude is not only a human characteristic. Animals have it, too, and this seal has the real deal. As the great white shark attempts to jump out of the water after its prey, the seal casually avoids it, applying the legendary slap along the way.
That’s right, not only does the seal go “na-a”, it also performs a silent, unheard, but surely existent maritime version of “can’t touch this”. Thus the seal lives to fight another day and also has a good story to tell to its baby seals, or maybe even grand seals.
The footage was caught around 30ft from the Cape Cod shore, Massachusetts, and allows people to bear witness to the brave seal which achieved the impossible. According to our predictions, it won’t be too long until the footage gets posted on Facebook and receives the well-known “look son, a legend” meme.
The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries and the Atlantic white Shark Conservancy caught the footage on camera and witnesses claimed that they had never seen a white shark jump out of the water in such a manner before. The truth is that it is quite rare to see two ton fish performing stunts like that, but this great white shark must have been really hungry.
The nimble seal avoided death while pulling off a show, but the next in line was not as lucky, making its way into the great white’s two ton belly. So nimble seal’s story might continue with a private maritime business called “Dodge-Shark” or “To the Face”, but we will have to see how that develops over time.
Seals are not an endangered species at this moment, their population abounding to around 350 to 500 thousand specimens worldwide, but they are not in a safe spot either. They have mostly been killed by diseases and via the “conflict” with humans. Canada, the U.K. and Norway allow seal hunting if they threaten fisheries in these countries.
They definitely do not have an easy life, especially because disease and humans are not their only concern. But life finds a way. It always does. So while the pursuit of keeping them safe is something we should be considering, they show us that they are not defenseless either.
So remember: whenever you’re in trouble, keep the attitude, be confident and slap it. But only if it’s necessary!
