Huawei’s New Smartphone, Mate 8 has already been launched in China. The company announced the technical specification and the tech-enthusiasts were not disappointed.
Mate 8 comes with a Full HD 6-inch IPS LCD display and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It has an octa core processor – Kirin 950 SoC, made of four Cortex A53 cores of 1.85GHz and four Cortex A72 of 2.3GHz.
The phablet (phone, almost tablet), as some already call it, will come in three versions: one basic, with 32GB onboard memory and 3GB RAM LPDDR4; one with a double storage, of 64GB and 4GB RAM and the most advanced one, with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage space.
Huawei has already announced the prices for China: the 32GB version costs $470, the 64GB one costs $580 while the 128GB version can be bought for $690. However, the international prices could be higher so Mate 8 can be considered a premium class smartphone.
For those who need more memory, a micro SD can be added but that would prevent the use of the second SIM, since the terminal uses the same slot for the second micro SIM and the memory card.
When it comes to taking photos, Mate 8’s cam has some interesting features. The back camera is a Sony IMX298 1/2.8” with phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF), having no less than 16 megapixels with 1.12 micron sized pixels. The problem could be with the 1.12 micro pixels, the lowest on the market, which could make the 16 megapixels camera struggle with low light environments.
The camera is also equipped with an optical image stabilizer and an f/20 aperture lens. This tri-axis stabilizer should improve the quality of images and video, diminishing the effect of hand shake and making the images sharper.
For selfie-lovers the front camera has 8MP with f/2.4 aperture, equivalent of 26 mm film.
Huawei claims that the 4000mAh batter of Mate 8 offers a better battery life with up to 30% compared with the last version, Mate 7 – which already had an impressive battery life. The efficiency comes from the advanced Kirin 950 SoC processor that uses a new chip technology.
Mate 8 is 157.11 mm high and 80.6 mm wide. The phone is made out of aluminum and 2.5D curved glass. It will be available in three colors: gold, copper and silver.
For now, the handset will only be available in China but it will also be released in other countries during the first part of the next year.
