Huawei Honor 5X just hit the U.S. market following the company’s repeated announcements. Newegg and Amazon offer the handset for 200 dollars. The date of release for Honor 5X was yesterday, January 31st.
Dropping the smartphone on the U.S. market is Huawei’s latest attempt to break the tide with American customers. Huawei kept its word regarding the U.S. launch of Honor 5X on the American shore. Now we have the opportunity to test it ourselves.
The 200 dollars off-contract brings the aluminium-clad Honor 5X. Huawei’s smartphone sports the Snapdragon 615 chip in addition to 2GB of RAM, both mid-range features. Honor 5X’s storage capacity stands at 16GB. Nonetheless, it’s easily extendable provided you add a MicroSD to support all your files. On Newegg you can have a 32GB microSD included in the Honor 5X pack.
The 5.5-inch display is also 1080p. Honor 5X’s rear-camera is a 13MP camera, while the front selfie-snapper is the typical 5MP. Both the micro-SIM and nano-SIM slots support 4G data in case you were wondering. Albeit not being able to use both slots simultaneously, this offers a convenient alternative to running around for SIM adapters and other gizmos.
One of the coolest features that Huawei Honor 5X boasts is its fingerprint scanner. Placed on the rear of the aluminium casing, the fingerprint scanner is a welcome addition to a smartphone which by all other specs and pricing looks mid-range.
Huawei Honor 5X just hit the U.S. market so there’s plenty of time left to see how the smartphone fares. Be warned that unlike other 5X, Honor 5X isn’t a Nexus. One of the downsides of Honor 5X is that it ships with Android 5.1. Moreover, it’s possible that the update won’t take place too soon.
Still, for a mid-range smartphone, bear with it as several of its features are touted to reach the performance of Nexus 6P even. The app drawer we all got accustomed to is missing altogether, having been replaced with Huawei’s Emotion UI.
Altogether, Huawei’s Honor 5X seems to offer a good run for the money. It’s available for purchase on Amazon and Newegg starting January 31st.
