
Honolulu man tried to retrieve the rogue baseball using a wooden pole.
On Friday, police officers, firefighters, and paramedics spend almost four hours trying to free a 55-year-old Honolulu man who fell between two building while attempting to retrieve a couple of baseball balls. The authorities managed to free the victim, who was later transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Honolulu Man Fell at Least 15 Feet When Attempting to Retrieve Balls
According to the Honolulu authorities, on Friday, at approximately 2 p.m., a frantic 911 call came from an area where a building was under construction. The caller told the emergency dispatcher that a man fell in the narrow space between two buildings and couldn’t get out.
When the authorities arrived, they’ve discovered a 55-year-old stuck in the space, head down. At first, the firefighters and paramedics attempting to drop a line down to the man so that they could pull him up.
The man told the authorities that he’s unable to grab the rope and that he had trouble breathing. With limited solutions, the firefighters brought some heavy-duty equipment and began cutting a large concrete slab to free the Honolulu man.
This painfully-long process took nearly four hours to complete. The man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
According to the authorities, the individual, who wished to remain anonymous, told the paramedics that he was on one of the nearby buildings, bouncing a baseball off a wall. However, he failed to catch the last one, which fell into the space between the two building.
He attempted to retrieve the ball and several other by using a thin wooden pole. However, he slipped and fell approximately 15 feet.
Following the incident, an urban planner declared that the gap through which the man fell should be either covered or safety net placed on top to prevent similar accidents.
