Devolver Digital has announced that it will be releasing Hatoful Boyfriend on PS4 and Vita, making game lovers the world over question the very idea of their passion. This pigeon-romance video games is so quirky and downright odd that it managed to impress the masses. Much like “Goat”, Hatoful Boyfriend took a concept and went completely crazy with it.
The game is planned to come out on Vita and Play Station 4 on the 21st of July and involves a world turned upside down where people date pigeons. In fact, the game’s concept is rather simple. You see the post-apocalyptic world that the game designers have set up for players through the eyes of the only human girl attending an all-pigeon high school. Befittingly, the name of this bird-only school is St. Pigeonation.
In this peculiar world, birds don’t only act and live just as normal humans do, they actually rule the world. Rather like “I am Legend” with pigeons.
Now that we’ve gotten through the environmental descriptions of the game, let’s get to the main goal. As peculiar as it may seem, the human girl faces assassination if she does not manage to impress and snag one particular bird boyfriend by the end of the semester. Of course, aside from this ultimate goal, you must navigate through the normal events of a teenager’s life, from P.E. to exam passing.
Oh, and we almost forgot. Your humble abode is nothing more than a cave.
Interactions are similar to those from other video games: you ask questions, discuss with in-game characters and live by the logical consequences of your in-game actions: you’re nice, you get friends, you aren’t, you piss people off.
Of course, the console adaptation will involve story add-ons and doomsday machines in order to make the PS4 and Vita version appealing to those who have already finished the PC version of the game. An additional storyline involving Tohri will also be available.
