Diets seem to be the easy way to control weight problems and sooner or later each and every one of us will resort to a pre-programmed eating routine.
It seems that it is much better for us if we let professionals choose what diet suits us best. Choosing the most appropriate eating routine depends on many factors, such as our metabolisms, the capacity of our bodies to assimilate certain substances, deficiencies that must be taken into account and so on. Only nutrition professionals can prescribe what it’s best for us to eat in order to keep our bodies fit and steady.
A recent research shows that people who chose the type of diet they were most attracted to in order to lose weight, showed less relevant results compared with people that went to a specialist that prescribed a personalized diet plan.
The study was performed on 207 subjects that were analyzed between May 2011 and June 2012. Their average ages were 55 years old and they were required to have a body mass index of 30 or even more. Three quarters were men and half were African American.
105 of them were allowed to choose their diets upon preference, either a low-carb diet or a low-fat diet. The rest of 102 study subjects were assigned to a “comparator” group that had to follow diet plans developed by study organizers.
After 48 weeks, members from the first group lost 12.6 pounds on average, while members of the other had lost no less than 14.7 pounds on average. Researchers stated that those who chose a diet based on food preferences were more likely to indulge themselves in the pleasures of irrational eating. On the other hand, the second group was subjected to the so called “personal trainer effect”, meaning they were more likely to adapt to situations, namely nutrition habits that someone else dictated to them.
Well, at least when it comes to weight problems, it is better if we let someone else make the choices for us, as we are inclined to take the easy way for something that is pretty hard to achieve. Efficient weight loss is performed with the help of people who know better. Assistance and appropriate dissemination of foods can better help to massive weight loss.
