Facebook Gets New Updates: Video as Profile Picture

The social network platform will give its users the possibility of updating their profile pictures with videos.

For all the users out there, Facebook gets new updates! The social network platform will give its users the possibility of updating their profile pictures with videos.

The announcement was made recently, but it is not known yet how this new update will work. What is known for sure, however, is the fact that the video will be 7-second length.

Nevertheless, this feature is not totally new on the market. Several other online platforms are already using it, such as Snapchat and Phhhoto.

“Profile videos will let you show a part of yourself you couldn’t before, and add a new dimension to your profile,” said Algerim Shorman, one of the product managers.

The company says the feature is more visual and gives the users the possibility to interact much better with their online friends, by keeping them up to date with their private life and important events, such as vacations, birthdays etc. or simply to express their solidarity for a certain cause.

The video will be watched by everyone visiting a certain Facebook profile, but the user will have the possibility of choosing which information to appear on the profile.

The strategy Facebook uses is to make more users addicted to this site, as they will have the possibility to modify the way they represent themselves on the social network.

Status updates, biographical information and still photos may not be enough to grasp someone’s identity, so this new update can be more useful.

When the user updates his or her profile picture with a video, it is going to auto play with no sound, unless the users want that. The cover image and the thumbnail will remain unchanged.

Bringing the profile to life, this new feature represents an opportunity to better know a person.

Although other social networks are already using this feature, the product managers stated that they didn’t got inspired by others.

Other important updates for Facebook are 100 new fields concerning personal information, temporary profile pictures and bigger sections dedicated to friends and photos.

So if you are a Facebook addict, stay tuned, because the new updates are going to improve your profile soon!
