Although it’s still a rumor but, according to Paramount, a Duke Nukem movie might be on its way, with the role of the charismatic, pill-popping, foul-mouthed video game character to be played by wrestling champ John Cena. According to the studio, the movie is in early pre-production.
Duke Nukem Not Dead?
As you know, the Duke Nukem franchise abruptly stopped in 2011, after the release of Duke Nukem Forever, the last PC game to feature the character. Although Gearbox, the company which currently owns all Duke rights, declared that a new game would be released no later than 2017, here we are in 2018 still wondering what happened to the trigger-happy steroids and booze addicted character.
Well, as fortune has it, the all-American anti-hero has stopped making video game appearances and has taken his game to the big screen where he’ll have his own movie. At least that’s what Paramount and Platinum Dunes are saying.
If the name of Platinum Dunes doesn’t sound familiar, it’s Michael Bay’s movie production studio. As for the collaboration with popular wrestler John Cena, it would appear that the talks are on-going, but given the fact that Cena and Bay worked together on various projects, the future of this movie seems to have been written in stone.
According to Paramount, the upcoming Duke Nukem movie is still in the early pre-production stage, as the studio has yet to recruit a cast, a director, and a scriptwriter. Things aside, we can say that the things are going the right way and we shall soon be regaled with, yet another take of Duke Nukem’s exploits.
For now, all we can do is sit tight and wait for the magic to take place. Meanwhile, word on the street says that Gearbox might discontinue working on their Duke Nukem game.
