Since the Office of Personnel Management has announced that more than 4.1 million federal employees’ data has been breached dissatisfaction about OPM’s response to hacking, has been souring.
The FBI has announced that the records of more than 4 million employees, have been compromised. This came as a result of Cyber Hacking attacks last December.
Not many people took to heart the lack of response from the OPM and further hesitation coming from the Presidential Administration. Federal employers feel betrayed, and the general belief is that , they were treated as being of secondary importance, with more emphasis maintained on preserving relations with China.
Voices in both the Republican and Democratic parties expected similar responses from the U.S. Government. They wanted basically the same reaction as the one from the Sony case, where the North Korean government was sanctioned by the U.S. for its participation on the American corporation.
Rumors have emerged that the people behind the attack were part of hacker groups supported by the Chinese Government. Analysts say that one of these groups has links with the Chinese Military and that it runs under the code name Deep Panda.
This is not the first time Deep Panda takes interest in information pertaining to American Citizens. Around 80 million citizens that had contracts with one of the largest healthcare providers in the U.S. , had their personal files compromised as well, by the same group
The Data stolen from Anthem the second largest Healthcare Insurance Group, contained personal information, ranging from addresses and phone numbers to private files containing diagnostics.
Two of the republican runners for President, have recently slammed the White house for not taking tougher measures against the Chinese government, for it’s supposed link with the Hacker groups. They voiced dissatisfaction about OPM’s response to hacking as well, as the President himself.
While the U.S. has not accused Beijing publicly, some officials recognized that information point to a Chinese based source for the attack.
However this is Cleary a calculated politic response on the part of the U.S. government since , tensions in the Pacific, require a China that is willing to reason and negotiate.
China has tense relations with both Japan and Taiwan who are being supported by the U.S. who is trying to calm the situation.
China is also a crucial partner to both the U.S. and North Korea. And China can make or break sanctions efficiency regarding North Korea.
