Friday night – Sheriff’s Deputy Daren Goforth, age 47, has been shot in an “execution-style killing” while he was pumping gas into his police vehicle at a petrol station in northwest Harris County, Houston.
The gunman could not be identified by the witness. The victim was shot from behind, and after falling to the ground he was shot multiple times.
Ron Hickman, Harris County Sheriff has declared that in 45 years in law enforcement he has never seen a murder as cold-blooded as the one from Friday. Authorities have found no hint of the gunman’s reason behind this murder. The only possible lead is that the Deputy was investigating an incident one hour prior to his death, but investigators said it remains unclear whether the two events are somehow related.
Police said that a manhunt for the gunman is currently under way. It is known that the suspect drove off immediately from the scene in a dark red Ford Ranger. Deputy Thomas Gililand is asking possible witnesses to step forward and notify authorities of any information that could lead to the identification and localization of the suspect.
The suspect is believed to be a male with dark complexion, between 20-25 years old, approximately 5 foot 20 and the last time he has been seen he was wearing a light-colored shirt with red shorts.
Homicide investigators, along with Harris County Sheriff’s deputies, have been joined by police officers from other law enforcement agencies in their search for the suspect, including men of the Houston Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety
Goforth’s identity was not immediately released, but we soon found from Sheriff Hickman that he was a married man with two sons and a law enforcement veteran. Hickman promised that he will do his best to find the suspect as soon as possible and bring him down to justice.
