There’s nothing like the first sip of coffee you take in the morning right? It’s that incredible rush you feel when the first few drops go down your throat, you wake up and you feel alive! And that taste! The taste adds flavor to that entire sensation. Studies show that a regular coffee consumption also has long term health benefits and this is where we go a little more in-depth.
Did you know that appropriate coffee consumption prevents a disease called mild cognitive impairment (MCI)? If you don’t know what this is, it would be suffice to mention that it is a harbinger for dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. So if you drink a reasonable amount of coffee everyday you’re practically ensuring that you will never have to deal with any of these diseases.
We owe this discovery to a late study conducted on 1,445 people. All participants were aged in between 65 and 84 and regular coffee consumption kept them out of harm’s way.
However, those who increased their coffee intake to 2 or more cups per day had twice the chance to develop MCI than those who consumed 1 or less cups every day. They also had twice the rate of MCI than the 1 cup consumers. What is quite fascinating is that the highest MCI chances were detected among people who did not consume coffee at all.
Scientists have concluded that the order of developing MCI would be as follows: non-coffee consumers are the most exposed to this type of disease; 2+ cup per day coffee consumers are fairly exposed, though less exposed than non-coffee consumers and 1 cup coffee consumers are well protected against MCI.
Vincenzo Solfrizzi and Francesco Panza, the two researchers who conducted the study, advise caution as to how much coffee one drink every day. The best course of action is to strike balance between pleasure and requirement in order to live a long and healthy life.
You need not be worried about the outcome of the study, however. And this definitely does not mean that you have to drink as little coffee as possible. Just make sure that you do not consume too much over a short period of time. So if you are reading this in the morning while drinking your cup of coffee, remember that you are entitled to savoring it and enjoy your delighted morning pleasure.
