Whether you might be aware or not Blizzard announced the revival of its finest titles somewhere last week. We are talking about big games, games that shaped an entire generation of gamers, games that were so cool back in the day that you would literally waste hours to play them and you still would not find everything you needed because the internet was very far away from where it is nowadays.
We do not really need to say that this is going to be a tough job, right? Blizzard is actually looking to hire 1 man: a senior software engineer that will be able to take both the burden and honor of bringing back legendary names from the grave. The games that are on the radar are Starcraft, Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3, all three outstanding games that not only earned Blizzard a lot of cash, but have stood out as some of the greatest games in gaming history, both in design and storytelling alike.
This is a very good and interesting move from Blizzard, since they will be literally hitting two birds with one stone. First of all, you have the dedicated player base who has had the chance to play these games back in the day. These are also the disappointed Diablo 3 players, who still believe that the second installment was the greatest the company ever achieved and they yearn for that experience once more.
Then you have the new generation, who have only heard tales about these games, but if they were to install them on their PCs now they would either finish each game in 4 hours or the PCs would not be able to run them because they are so far behind in experience. Thus, they need to get these players accustomed to the current experience and making these games better again is surely the way to do it.
And they also have the strategy plan behind all of this: World of Warcraft is going down, there is a probability that we might have a Diablo MMORPG (nothing official, but the potential is there) and Starcraft has just finished its second installment, so the third one is on its way. They need to get players gripped and hyped about the Blizzard experience and there is no better way to do so.
Blizzard announced the revival of its finest titles and we sure do hope that they are going to arrive fast. There is nothing better than a good old Warcraft 3 conquering or a good Diablo grind.
