Humans get bored so easily, as we are repeatedly exposed to giant amounts of written and visual data, over stuffing our brains with information we don’t need. Tech developers and giant companies are involved in a permanent endeavor to make everything more entertaining in order to grab our attention and keep us focused on what they aim to deliver beyond the shiny, happy images that make our hearts melt.
Gmail is the e-mailing platform coming from the Google giant, and it is supposed to be a simple and basic tool that fulfills our online communication needs. But Google tries to boost its popularity and to target larger slices of public, youngsters included. Now, the themes in Gmail allow you to make your inbox look less like a faceless, nameless, soulless sprawl of emails and more like something you enjoy using and looking at. Google recently announced the new addition of hundreds of photos and options that will make it look way more entertaining.
The users’ database is enriched with hundreds of standard images to choose from, highly useful for those of us who are lazy enough to upload our own photos and make our inbox look like it’s ours alone. The images can now be improved as well, as Gmail provides new tools that enable you to add layers of blur or vignette or switch up the text background color so that the setup can work as a whole.
Google also announced a new set of emoji that will turn your Gmail experience into a highly vivid one. You will be able to express yourself more accurately with the help of the imaginative faces, animated characters, foods or moods that allow for a minimalistic vocabulary and maximal meaning.
The update started to roll out today but it will most likely take a few days to arrive on the entire Gmail users’ database so keep calm and wait for the emoji to put a smile on your face and on the boring white transparent e-mail sheet.
For those of us who enjoy a plain, clear and basic design, the updates don’t represent a major piece of news. For the others, who need a high dose of color and movement to boost their attention, inspiration and focus on the e-mails they want to compose, the emoji list and the extended theme database will do a great job.
One thing is for certain: animated emoji and new wallpapers will make Gmail way more entertaining, fun and playful. Even though some of us are no longer children, a splash of color and animation can always bring a smile on our tired faces.
