Although allergy season is inevitable every year, it doesn’t have to be unbearable
Springtime is the season of Life, but for allergy sufferers, it can also be the most dreaded time of year. Warm winds and spring rains induce the release of pollen from trees, grasses, and shrubs, ushering in the greenery we love but often wreaking havoc on our eyes and sinuses. Although the allergy season is inevitable every year, it doesn’t have to be unbearable. Bellow are some tips which will reportedly help lessen the effects of allergies on the daily life.
The Effects Of The Allergy Season Reportedly Improved With Antihistamines, Nasal Sprays, or Even Acupuncture
Over-the-counter antihistamines such as Claritin (loratadine), Allegra (fexofenadine), Zyrtec (cetirizine), and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) are the front line defense against allergies. They work by blocking the histamine response from the immune system that ultimately leads to all the facial problems. Be aware that some can make one sleepy, so if they do, use them at bedtime instead.
“If you’re suffering from runny nose, sneezing and itchy eyes, I would recommend an antihistamine medication for your symptoms, but if nasal congestion is an issue than it’s a decongestant that may be more helpful.”
This is according to Dr. Erinn Gardner. She is part of the Atlanta Allergy and Asthma Clinic. People can use nasal sprays or eye drops in conjunction with or instead of antihistamine pills. Some of the sprays and drops are also antihistamine compounds that go directly onto the offended facial tissues. Others are mild steroids that reduce sinus inflammation.
Some people opt to use a neti pot or squeeze bottle to do a daily sinus rinse. They do this with an isotonic salt and baking soda solution. These are very effective at flushing out pollen, reducing sinus swelling, and soothing and hydrating irritated tissues. Sinus rinses are a great drug-free alternative to the medications, especially for those who experience side effects of the antihistamines.
Although many people feel this suggestion is out of left field, the data on the effectiveness of acupuncture for the treatment of allergy symptoms is quite compelling. But people should be sure to look for a licensed practitioner.
With some preparation and knowledge, you can take the bite out of allergy season and enjoy your outdoor springtime activities without fear of allergies.
