Would you believe us if we told you that watching a certain type of game makes you a lot healthier? You should, because it seems like a game app made people healthy. It is not as simple as we make it look. It is actually a site that encourages you to exercise regularly and that was designed as a game. It also encourages other healthy activities.
The good news is that hypertensive people who used this site registered a lower blood pressure, quite a significant difference. Also, lower blood pressure has recently been deemed very healthy for patients as it lowers the risk of heart attacks or other heart-related issues that leave people with worries and a lot of money spent on medicine.
Approximately half of the people who had a high blood pressure when the study began ended with a great reduction by the time it was over. So it is safe to say that around half of the people came in the study sick and got out healthier.
The people who were engaged in nearly all the activity that was suggested by the interactive site were the lucky ones to register massive drops in diastolic and systolic blood pressure. Engagement and time investment seem to be the key to a healthier lifestyle and this conclusion was also enforced by Kham M. Siddiqui, the medical officer responsible for the venture that took place in Chicago.
The study’s findings were presented at the American Heart Association Council on Hypertenion Scientific Sessions in 2015.
Siddiqui declared, in a press statement, that the findings of the study “confirms what many have felt intuitively: when individuals are armed with their health data, they can make meaningful improvements in their health that may lead to lasting behavior change”. As long as people have something that motivates them and gives them accurate directions, they will act to their benefit.
Siddiqui was also interviewed via telephone on the matter and he was very positive about the study’s future implications. He believes that this inexpensive and user-friendly method of keeping track of blood pressure might lower heart attack and stroke risks. It may also have extra implications in helping other people who are vulnerable to heart issues in general.
Siddiqui did not hesitate to mention that the site was designed with some online gaming features in mind in order to create the fun/distraction mentality. As long as people perceive an activity as being fun, they will do it no matter how exhausting it might be.
