Experts discovered an Egyptian city which might have been built 7000 years ago. Archeologists found this city near the temple of Seti I. He was an Egyptian pharaoh whose reign started in the 13th century BCE.
The Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities mentioned that this city might provide some new information about the oldest cities in Egypt. Abydos is one of the oldest cities in Egypt and it is believed that it was the capital of the country in the predynastic period.
The team of specialists discovered different objects, from iron tools to pottery remains. They also found graves. It is believed that the recently discovered Egyptian city has been populated by high-ranking officials and tomb builders.
The ministry mentioned that the fact that the graves were big showed that the people who lived there were important ones. The ministry completed that these tombs were a lot bigger than the normal ones “which proves the importance of the people buried there and their high social standing.”
This is a great discovery for archeologists. This is interesting too because the Egyptian city was so close to the temple of Seti I, an area that was searched before but nothing was found until now.
This discovery is an important help for the tourism in Egypt because there have been some problems and many tourists stopped visiting that area. The thing that most affected the tourism in that country was the revolution from 2011. The tourists were scared off by the militant attacks there. They also fear to visit that region because the political situation there is unstable.
Another thing that affected the tourism of Egypt was the bombing of the Russian plane. The plane was traveling from the Red Sea resort of Sharm El- Sheikh last year. The people who were traveling by that plane were killed. More than 200 people lost their lives in that attack. The bombing was claimed by ISIS.
This discovery could change the way Egypt is seen now and it could make more people come and find out more about this culture. Let’s hope that the situation changes and that the tourism will flourish after this discovery.
