Sarah Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, stepped out of the spotlight since her resignation as an Alaska governor in 2009 and she eventually ended up at the periphery of U.S. politics, making headlines from time to time with her remarks and refreshing personal style.
But that may be about to change as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who launched his bid on June 16, eyed her for his cabinet in case he is elected President.
Recently, the billionaire said in a radio show dedicated to Palin that he needs her as a staff member in case his campaign is successful. We don’t know whether Palin was there or heard it live. But she surely did now from the media coverage. Strangely, she declined to provide any comment on her Facebook page, although she is a very active user.
Trump made his statements Monday at Mama Grizzly Radio, an online radio station dedicated to Palin 24/7, which reports her latest activities, speeches, and exclusive interviews with Palin experts, or “Palinistas” as the site puts it.
Trump was invited at the radio station to express his view on various topics from climate change, which he believes is a well-orchestrated hoax, to unemployment, which he promised to solve by siphoning jobs from China. He also talked about President Regan which he respects, and about Palin.
He described her as a “tough and smart woman” that has the ability of handling the political lies and nonsense around her to her advantage. Trump also said that both her and her family were “great” people, which he admires.
The host of the radio show Kevin Scholla congratulated Trump for being “Palin-ed” and told him that people that never heard of him would notice that and go after his character. Trump continued and noted that both he and Palin have a lot of adversaries that don’t “exactly love us.” But despite this, the former Alaska Governor has an incredibly loyal fan base.
When Scholla asked the presidential candidate whether he would like to have Palin in his crew he replied that he would love that.
“Because she really is somebody who knows what’s happening and she’s a special person. She’s really a special person and I think people know that,”
Trump replied to a second question on his motives.
Nevertheless, he didn’t say what position he was considering for Palin, but the respect between the two politicians is mutual. Last week, Palin praised Trump and Sen. John McCain as heroes and men who truly love their country.
