The most popular messaging service used by millions of people, WhatsApp, has just released its calling feature for iPhones.
WhatsApp calling feature was updated for Android devices last months and iOS users were waiting patiently to have it on their iPhones and other Apple devices.
The users have been comparing the latest WhatsApp calling feature to other popular messaging services like Skype and FaceTime Audio.
In its update description WhatsApp writes that users can call their friends and family members for free using the new feature, even if they are in a different country.
The feature uses the internet connection of the user’s phone, instead of the minutes included in the phone’s plan.
The new WhatsApp calling feature will not be available on every iPhone right away. According to the WhatsApp representatives, the feature will most definitely be updated on the iOS devices in the next couple of weeks.
The company explained that they needed to run an array of beta tests before releasing the calling feature on Android devices.
So the same procedures need to be followed as well for iOS devices to ensure the proper functioning of the calling feature.
The new feature is called WhatApp version 2.12.1 and it comes with an iOS 8 share extension. Also, it features a quick camera button for chat, a special option that allows the user to send multiple videos in one go, and a feature that allows the users to edit their contact list right from the app.
According to WhatsApp, the new feature can be used to crop and rotate a video before sending it.
Also, the latest feature for iOS 8 lets the user share videos, photos and links on WhatsApp taken from other separate apps.
With the quick camera button the user can take photos and videos or use it to choose a recent camera roll photo or video.
How does the new WhatsApp calling feature for iPhone work? When someone calls using WhatsApp, the user will see a notification showing who the caller is.
When answering the call, the user has different options: either to put in on speaker or to mute it. Also, the user can send a message to the person who’s calling.
If the new WhatsApp feature for iOS is similar to the Android version, then it will have a Calls tab that will show a list of incoming, outgoing or missed calls.
