Texas will be left with no more than 7 abortion clinics, according to a decision recently made by the US Circuit Court of Appeal. This particular law enforcement program started as an initiative from the Republicans, stating that every abortion center must meet hospital-level operating standards.
This is one of the toughest social and healthcare law enforcements in the nation, as there are only 17 clinics dedicated to abortion procedures, resulted from a previous cut down in 2012, when almost 30 clinics were closed in Texas due to new law amendments.
Texas is a state with 27 million people and for that amount of population, there will be only 7 abortion clinics open.
The new law requires for such cabinets to provide ambulatory surgical center standards, minimum room, door sizes and anesthesia pipelines. Only 7 clinics from the total amount of 17 meet those requirements.
Owners of traditional abortion clinics highly criticize the government decisions, stating that such a strict regulation requires millions of dollars spend for upgrades and that calls for impossible budgets. This is a second large wave of closures in two years, as social care committees tighten the limits of law, putting owners in the position of irreversible end of business-efficient abortion management.
This government decision touches a very delicate matter, namely women’s rights. This is a controversial subject ever since suffragettes appeared and many years have passed with no relevant answers offered when it comes to abortion and the woman’s natural right to decide over the life of an unborn child.
Republicans and democrat leaders have extensively debated the matter ever since 1973, when Roe W Wade ruled that women are entitled to have an abortion, as it is their lives at stake in this delicate matter.
However, abortion rights continue to be a controversial subject and women’s rights in general are a nuanced theme on the state officials daily ruling routine. It is somehow scandalous that in the XXI-st century, where everyone fights for extreme freedom, freedom of thought, speech, behavior and acceptance, women still need to struggle to have a right to decide over their own lives.
This is a case where the Supreme Court can play a major role by agreeing to cancel the decision.
Being denied the possibility to have an abortion could pose serious risks for women, especially if we are referring to young girls that get pregnant before 18 years of age. Having a child should be a decision made at the right time and for the right time to be enjoyed, women must have alternatives to deal with the unpredictable situations and control them according to their beliefs, lifestyles and social situations.
