The study, made by the Swedes, revealed that taller people are more likely to suffer from this disease.
Shorter people have always been subject to jokes and were quite marginalized, but it seems that things turn into their favor, as the risk of cancer is bigger for taller persons. The study revealed that there a strong connection between height and the disease.
The study was conducted by Dr. Emelie Benyi over a period of 50 years, during which many Swedes were under careful observation. The study revealed that women have 18% bigger chances of suffering from cancer at every 4 inches of added height, as compared to men, who have 11% bigger chances.
The study was exhibited during a conference at the European Society for Pediatric Endocrinology.
Although the researchers established there is a connection between height and cancer, they couldn’t find out what causes this connection. However, they stated that cancer can be produced by a wide range of factors and this is why “it is difficult to predict what impact our results have on cancer risk at the individual level,” Benyi declared.
A comparable study has been made in Britain between 1996 and 2001. The results are pretty much the same. After closely observing 1,3 million people, the test identified a 16% increase in risk cancer for 4 added inches.
Nevertheless, many theories have been elaborated in order to justify the connection between height and cancer. Some said there is the growth of cells number, while others put the blame on food intake, such as red meat and some other chemicals found in bread. Taller people need to eat more food, so there is a higher risk to ingest the chemicals. Also, a study made on mice revealed that a big number of hormones may also increase the risk of cancer.
