State Offers Free Influenza Shots

Nov 7, 2015 By Joe Hennessey Leave a Comment

"State Offers Free Influenza Shots"

Free immunizations will be offered by the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.

This year, autumn comes with a grim piece of news. Official authorities reported that they have registered the first death case of the year due to an outbreak of seasonal flu. Prompted by this tragedy, Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital reminded all patients that the state offers free influenza shots.

Health authorities have declared that they will be setting up two clinics for free immunization. The first one will take place this Saturday. The clinic will be opened from 11 PM until 2 PM. Along with the free immunization program, Government authorities have set up additional facilities for patients such as a free parking lot that comes with a valet. The immunization clinic is set up in the parking lot of Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. If you don’t know how to get there, the hospital is located at 450 East Rome Lane.

The hospital also announced another round of vaccinations. This will take place in a make-shift clinic, scheduled to begin immunization next Saturday, on November the 14th. The make-shift clinic will be opened between 9 AM and 12PM. This  project will be part of a health celebration that will take place at new Taylor Farms Health and Wellness Center. Those who are interested in both thematic and the free flu shot, can find the Center on 850 5th Street.

Now to get a few facts straight about the common flu. Influenza in categorized as being an infectious disease caused by the influenza virus. You are very likely to be suffering from the flu  if you exhibit the following symptoms: fever, sore throat, runny nose, muscle pains coughing, and severe headaches. There are also other symptoms associated with the seasonal flu such as nausea, vomiting and an overall felling of sluggishness.

Gastroenteritis seems to be highly associated with another form of influenza, commonly name stomach flu or the 24-hour flu. There are a series of severe complications due to the flu such as viral pneumonia, sinus infections, asthma and heart failure.

Most treatments for the seasonal flu emphasize the importance of daily habits. The patient must rest for extended periods of time and must consume plenty of fluids. He should also avoid smoking and drinking. If medication is necessary, take paracetamol and avoid aspirin.

State offers free influenza shots in order to prevent other death cases. Typically, the vaccine used in flue immunization is called Tdap and it has been made available all over the country. The vaccine is efficient against three diseases: tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis. Also, health authorities mentioned that the vaccine comes in two forms: classic shots and nasal spray.
