The girl was filmed by a bank’s cameras while driving along Ocean Boulevard
On August 20, Marley McKenna Spindler, a 16-year-old from Surfside Beach, South Carolina, went missing the first day of school after leaving a Chick-Fil-A restaurant. Her friends said that they met with the girl for breakfast in the morning but they never saw her ever since.
She told them she was going to school, but her last text messages show that she was followed.
On her way to school, she changed her mind and told her friends that she would take a detour and go pick up a 22-year-old man she recently met on a local beach. The girl also said that she would drive the man identified as “Jeremy” to his home and then go to class.
But she never made it to school. One of her family members told reporters that Marley was either abducted or she ran away.
“One minute we’re managing and the next it all falls into chaos,”
said her aunt.
Her aunt also said that around 8:40 a.m. that morning, the girl sent a worrisome text message to her group of friends saying that she was followed. Her friends thought that it was a just joke, and Marley was just making excuses to skip school.
Her dad tried to reach her that afternoon, but an employee at the Ocean Reef Resort answered the call and told him that they found the girl’s smartphone in the parking lot. Today, the police said that they were able to talk to ‘Jeremy,’ but the man was obviously not involved. Police officers declined to provide more details on the case but they said they believe it was something serious.
A spokesperson for the Horry County Police Department said that investigators found evidence nearby the lost smartphone that the South Carolina teen left alone and there was no sign of struggle. A CCTV camera also showed the teen driving to a bank where she withdrew about $100 from her bank account on the same morning.
The girl’s family told police that they want her home safe and sound. They aren’t interested if she got into some shady business.
A spokesperson of the police added that Marley’s parents made a short video asking the girl to return home regardless of what she has done. The police recently released more data on the girl in hopes that she would be find. She was last seen in jeans and a white top, and driving her silver Ford Escape. The car’s a license plate is KF1776.
