Shortages which has plagued the Washington state’s legal marijuana market has eased somewhat and prices at recreational-pot stores down as much as 40 percent. Cannabis City, Seattle’s first pot shop opened in July and was out of supplies within three days. The state has been trying to make amends by licensing more growers, processors and retailers increasing supply and reducing prices at $15 a gram. Prices were as high as $25 a gram in July.
The two US states, Colorado and Washington became the first states in US to sell recreational marijuana. Voters in Alaska, Oregon and the District of Columbia have also passed legalization measures. Colorado already has in place an existing setup of medical marijuana sellers, Washington had to start the process from the start.
Washington has issued licenses for 97 of a planned 334 stores to serve 7 million residents. There are plans to license 20 stores in Seattle. The city is estimated to have 300 unlicensed medical marijuana dispensaries.
