Season of the Damned
Game of Thrones’s next season should be called Season of the Damned. John Snow is coming back, the Hound is coming back, Catelyn Starks is still (widely believed) coming back, although we do not have any official information on that, and now it looks like the Blackfish is also re-entering the stage. If we pair all of these with the White Walker invasion, we definitely have the Season of the Damned title confirmed.
The news was confirmed by the Watchers on the Wall and Los Siete Reinos, both entities having stated that Clive Russel, the actor who played Brynden Tully, or more widely known as the Blackfish, is going to make his stand once again in Game of Thrones’ 6th season. Blackfish’s return can only mean good news for the show, since his arrival brings back many questions, especially related to Lady Stoneheart.
Rumors say that Blackfish escaped the Red Wedding, he is alive and well, but quite silent. In fact, we have yet to hear anything from him since season 3. Judging by how the show is progressing, we could even make a wild guess and say that he joined the Brotherhood without Banners, the group who basically resurrected Catelyn Stark and follows her in her relentless path to destroy all Freys and Lannisters.
But if only that were true. It appears that the Blackfish is now in Riverrun, with business of his own. He intends to protect his home from what looks like a Lannister invasion. The invasion also includes Bronn and Jaime Lannister. This is actually good news considering how Jaime’s story progressed through season 5. It was a complete disappointment that even caused fans to stop watching the show.
In season 5, Jaime was already supposed to be in Riverrun, but HBO created an alternative sotryline for him, sending him to Dorne in order to bargain for Myrcella’s life. Even though he was successful and his daughter was given back to him, she died in Jaime’s arms due to a poisonous kiss from Ellarya Sand. The scene finished showing Jaime’s desperation as he could not save the daughter who recognized that she loved him as a father.
This brings Jaime back on his old storyline, apparently, and from the looks of it, he will have to face Blackfish in the season to come. We do expect to see some great action coming from these two characters, especially because Jaime has a great storyline in the books. If we could get to the good part in season 6, it will definitely be more acclaimed than season 5 ever was.
