Modern life philosophy has changed dramatically over the last thousands of years. Back then family, children and marriage were part of the most valued and holy areas of human existence. Nowadays people are more focused on careers, social life, virtual interactions and hedonistic pleasures.
Abortion was always a highly controversial subject; religion sees it as immoral, comparing it to homicide. This stigma has made women think twice before deciding to have an abortion, with many of them sticking to religious and moral principles and abandoning the idea of controlled miscarriage.
A recent study shows that the general perception regarding abortion has changed dramatically. A three years research involving 670 women of all social backgrounds reveals that no less than 95% of women don’t regret having an abortion.
The study was performed by experts from the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health at UC San Francisco School of Medicine. The group analyzed was extremely diverse in relation to standard social metrics such as employment, education and race. The variables of the study also extended to a matter called pregnancy and abortion situation.
From the total of study subjects, 40% of women reported having an abortion due to financial considerations while 36% decided the time was not right for a baby. Furthermore, 26% of women found the decision easy and 53% found it somewhat difficult.
Researchers examined two groups of women overall. Those who had first trimester abortions and women who had procedures after the “safe zone”. They asked these two groups about their emotions following the procedure along with their opinions whether or not it was the right choice. Conclusion is they didn’t find any meaningful differences between the two groups, both were equally at peace with their decisions.
Women are less constrained by moral rules than they were in the past. They find it easier to make decisions and to take control over their existence, thus avoiding unpredictable situations that may dramatically change the course of their life. Maybe this is the reason why women don’t regret having an abortion. Our society is based on highly liberal rules, which make our doors of perception open more widely and let alternatives kick in whenever the time is right.
