According to her statement, Michelle Myers, a former beauty queen from Texas, her life changes one night after she went to bed with a horrible headache. When she woke up in the morning, she was speaking with a foreign accent.
The woman, who now lives in Arizona, reportedly suffers from a very rare condition called the Foreign Accent Syndrome. It seems that this has led to her talking in three different accents until now.
It started with her native American English accent and went to an Irish, British, and even an Australian one. While it may seem like some kind of joke or invention for publicity, Myers swears that the condition she suffers from is very serious.
More importantly, it is also real. The woman responded to those who called her an attention-seeker by saying that when she first revealed what had happened to her, she was sent straight to a psychiatrist.
People considered her a lunatic at first. According to Myers, this is not something you do to draw attention to yourself.
Waking Up with Three Different Accents
Myers is also seemingly right. According to doctors, this condition, although extremely rare, is indeed real. However, it usually doesn’t manifest after waking up from a nap. In most cases, it accompanies neurological damage, a stroke, or any other unknown health issues that the patient might have.
As for Myers, she thinks that her Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome diagnosis triggered this unusual condition. According to her, this problem caused her significant chronical pains since she was a little girl up until she reached adulthood.
The Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome usually causes severe pain in the joints, bruises, and aches deep inside the bones. It is possible that this might have led to Myers’s unusual change in accents.
The former beauty queen has the love and support of her seven children even if there are people who are questioning the truthfulness of her claims.
“Some people think it’s physiological; others think it’s psychological. People like me — we don’t care which one it is. We just really want to be taken seriously and if it is something that’s going to hurt me, help me,” declares Myers.
