After his return in the United States, Obama re-explained the terrorist situation to the American people. This was by far his most ample discussion, highlighting how America should perceive this entire context. The usual ideas were once again displayed: we should be aware of the fact that the terrorists are trying to harm humanity and that we should under no circumstances refuse refugees based on the idea that they might be terrorists themselves. It is our moral right to help them and we should do so.
Obama gave the speech during the event in which France’s President, Francois Hollande, participated. Needless to say, the event’s role was to demonstrate that America is close to France in a time of great need, but there were other intentions involved as well. Obama’s world tour and the speeches that he gave were not exactly perceived well by his homeland, so he wanted to regain his political territory back home as well.
These intentions, however, have come to backfire since they reveal that Obama does not have much of a plan on how to defeat ISIS in the foreseeable future. Both presidents have declared that the air strikes on the terrorist group will intensify, but this does not solve the problem now, does it? We are well aware that ISIS are aiming their attacks outside of Syria and Iraq and perhaps the other two thirds of the war should be waged online so that the spreading of the ISIS beliefs be stopped.
Obama was very emotional about the Paris attacks that occurred 10 days ago, noting that this is a very important moment not only for the American and French people, but for the world as a whole. ISIS is trying to turn each nation against each other through promoting false ideas of freedom and how the American people have failed the world. We all know that this is not the case.
America, together with the majority of the planet’s nations, has struggled to maintain peace and prosperity for years on end. Did we make mistakes? Yes we did, but we always talked about them and we always tried to solve them. Killing innocent people is no form of promoting a new “better” way of life. It is a blasphemy and it must be dealt with as soon as possible.
Obama re-explained the terrorist situation and it is clear that he understands them, but we need a backup plan in order to defeat ISIS. And we need it fast.
