Not To Bathe In The Waters Of Oahu
We would like to inform you not to bathe in the waters of Oahu, as shark attacks have severely injured two men today. The attacks occurred within eight hours, so it is difficult to predict when and where they will strike. This is why we encourage you to stay away from the water, at least until authorities find a solution to the problem at hand. We do not want anybody else to get injured.
The city Emergency Medical Services have declared that, after the last attack, a young man, aged 32, was put in a serious condition after the shark had attacked him/. He was attacked just off Waikiki. His condition is stable, for the time being, yet the situation should not be trifled with. We are not yet aware as to why the sharks have come so close to the beach, but there definitely must be a way to drive them back.
The first attack occurred at 11:40 a.m., when paramedics had to respond at 1502 Mokulua Drive. In that first situation, a 44 year old man had been injured by a shark in the vicinity of Lanikai. The second attack took place at 7:20 p.m. and paramedics immediately went to 2425 Kalakua Ave. Both victims were treated accordingly, but their conditions were not at all pleasant.
In the attack which occurred at 11:40, two men were just swimming to the shore, coming from the Mokulua Islands. They were very close the shore when the shark attacked, some 50-100 yards away, so this is a clear indicator that sharks are not afraid of approaching the shore if they want to find food. The Honolulu Fire department gave all the details regarding the attack.
The man was injured at both legs while the other was lucky enough to escape without any injury. Two kayakers who were in the vicinity paddled both men back to the shore. There, the HFD personnel treated him and later sent him to the hospital. As a result, Mokulua, Kailua and Lanikai have been closed and swimming is prohibited in the area.
But these two attacks were not the only incidents that occurred this year. These two are actually the 6th and 7th attacks of 2015, the most tragic one having occurred 8 days ago. Colin Cook, aged 25, was bitten by another shark somewhere around the surfing stop known as North Shore. Cook lost his left leg and while he is recovering withing the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific in Honolulu, his life will never be the same again.
This is why we inform you not to bathe in the waters of Oahu.
