Nintendo NX Is Rumored To Launch With a New Super Smash Bros

Jan 30, 2016 By Joe Hennessey Leave a Comment

"nintendo wii u"

At least, the NX has a decent name, in comparison to Wii and Wii-U that just sound funny.

It seems that the new gaming console Nintendo NX is rumored to launch with a new Super Smash Bros. This rumor comes from Dr. Serken Toto, the CEO of Kantan Games, a game industry consultancy business.

Several games have been claimed by Toto to be under development for the elusive NX console at Bandai-Namco, but one of the most important is an allegedly new Super Smash Bros. Given the staggering popularity surrounding the franchise, with the game being played in numerous tournaments, given the fact that it is one of the oldest games to be considered an e-sport, it’s not entirely surprising that Nintendo would choose it as a launch title.

But according to several game critics and aficionados, this game will more than likely be a port from the Wii U version of Smash Bros. This allegation comes backed by the fact that every Smash game has a couple of years of development behind it each and every time, alongside a tremendous amount of hype. It is highly unlikely for Nintendo to just pop out a new Smash Bros game just like that, without any marketing surrounding it.

What is interesting to consider is the rumor that this version will have cross-play functionality with Wii U, similar to how 3DS users could play against Wii U users with ease. The added features for the NX are just speculations at this point, but the fact that a new version will come for NX was stated by Dr. Toto to be completely valid, given how he would not have tweeted this information if his source would not have been completely reliable.

Nintendo seems to be a bit off when it comes to launching new consoles, with its competitors PlayStation and Xbox usually launching around the same period. This happened with the Wii U as well, being already considered old when the next-gen consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, hit the markets, even if it was only two years behind. But if most games will have cross-play between NX and Wii U, both of these consoles will get a considerable boost in popularity, as well as sale numbers and longevity.

Although the idea that the new Nintendo NX is rumored to launch with a new Super Smash Bros can still be completely placed in the realm of allegation, it will still gather some amounts of hype from Nintendo fans, as well as gamers in general. We will just have to wait until Nintendo will unveil more and more details regarding this new console.
