Super Smash Bros game director Masahiro Sakurai has unveiled a good amount of new downloadable content for the game during a video presentation in Redmond, which includes three new playable characters: Ryu from Street Fighter, Lucas from Mother 3 and Roy from the Fire Emblem series.
This comes alongside a massive update which grants the game three new stages and the current playable character new outfits from other classical fighting games such as Tekken or Virtua Fighter. The DLC’s can be bought separately or as a single pack for $21.96, for either the 3DS or the Wii U, and can also purchase both versions for a discounted price of $29.16.
Ryu, one of the most memorable characters from the popular Street Fighter series, marks the first time a character from Street Fighter is also included into Super Smash Bros and, according to video presentation, has his in-game appearance constructed on the one he donned in Street Fighter two. He was also introduced with a full range of classic moves from the Street Fighter series; even if they are easier to execute in Super Smash Bros, Sakurai said that players who use his old button combinations will execute powerful variants of the same moves.
The presentation has also shown features which will be implemented in the near future. The game will be getting a Tourney mode for its online community as a free upcoming update in August, with time-based Community Tourneys and regular Tourneys with specific rules. Also coming exclusively to the Wii U version will be a feature which lets players instantly post video replays of their matches on YouTube, provided they have a Google account which they can link with the game. The latter feature has not received a release date.
Super Smash Bros is a widely popular fighting game published by Nintendo which features iconic characters from its own franchises and beyond as playable characters, such as Mario, Fox McCloud from the Star Fox series, Samus Aran from Metroid, Link from Legend of Zelda or Pikachu. The latest game in the series, Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, was released last fall to great critical and commercial success. The WiiU version currently holds a score of 94 from professional game critics on review aggregate site Metacritic and 9.2 rating from users, with both versions selling more than 10 million units worldwide.
