4 out of ten people know about someone who is suffering from painkiller addiction.
It would seem that no matter the country you’re in, the debate entailing prescription vs. non-prescription drugs seems to keep everyone’s attention. The most dramatic aspect of this situation is that more people are getting hooked on painkiller due to the fact that a couple of painkiller can be bought, at any local drugstore, without requiring a written prescription from your family doctor.
This dramatic conclusion has been drawn after the health authorities reviewed the poll results. The results came out on the 24th of November, and it was organized by the Kaiser Family Foundation.
According to the results, more than 27 percent of US citizens are addicted to painkillers or are aware of someone who is hooked on painkillers. The survey takes another swoop turn when introducing the ethnical parameter into the equation. It would seem that painkiller consumption is more common among white people, that Afro-Americans or Hispanics.
The survey encompassed more a 1000 adults. Upon reviewing their answer, the organization found that that each of them had some issues related to painkiller addictions. Most of them either knew or heard about someone that had died due to an overdose. The other answers entailed that people are actually very aware when they encounter someone who has a painkiller addiction or when they hear about someone who bought drugs without a prescription.
Delving deeper into the numbers, it would seem that a very important factor to this issues is the geographical area. The study shows that people living in a rural area are more likely to develop an addiction to painkiller.
Now, ethnically speaking, it would seem that painkiller abuse is common among white people. The survey showed that 63 percent of known addicts are white. The number of painkiller addiction grows at an alarming rate. Low addiction rates have been registered among blacks, with 44 percent and Hispanics, with 37 percent.
Putting the numbers together, it would seem that the outcome is most dramatic: 4 of 10 people either know or heard of someone who either is a painkiller addict or he can buy painkiller without prescription. Lines have been drawn and authorities are doing everything they can to keep the growing numbers at bay. People who took the survey said that the authorities should be concentrating on providing proper care and treatment for those who are addicted. Also painkiller prescription and public education on painkiller are top priorities when it comes to proper painkiller management.
