Judge Lisa Gorcyca
A Michigan judge ordered three siblings to a juvenile detention center after she held them in contempt of court for refusing to comply with an order to talk to and have launch with their dad. The kids’ parents have been engaged in a custody dispute for more than six years now.
The judge at Oakland County Family Court ordered the three kids aged 9, 10, and 15 behind bars on June 24 for refusing to meet with their biological dad at the court’s cafeteria. On that day, the court removed the siblings from their mother’s custody.
According to court records, judge Lisa Gorcyca told two of the siblings that she would have the deputies take them to the Children’s Village, a juvenile facility with over 100 kids, if they continue to stubbornly refuse to “have a nice launch” with their dad.
But when the kids told her that they didn’t want to, she scolded them and even expressed her doubts on the IQ of one of them.
“I’ve never seen anything like this. Your dad is a good man who loves you. You have been brainwashed. You are brainwashed. This is not normal behavior,”
judge Gorcyca continued.
One of the siblings told the judge the reason why he doesn’t want to reconcile with or speak to his dad. The child said that he had a reason for that and that’s because he hit his mom.
The judge declined any comment on the case. The attorney of Maya Eibschitz-Tsimhoni, the kids’ mother, also declined to provide any comment because of the “sensitive nature” of the trial.
But Ronn Torossian, a close friend of the kids’ dad, believes that their mom is still a danger to her kids and that she deserves to have her children taken away from her because she failed to serve their best interests.
Mr. Torossian said about his friend that he was a caring and loving father who sought a healthy relationship with his offspring. But the siblings’ mom did everything she could to alienate the kids from their father while she disdained “countless” hearings and rulings.
And to make things even more dramatic judge Gorcyca told the 15-year-old offender that he won’t be with his younger siblings in the juvenile lock up’s cell. She told him that she would explicitly write that in the court order.
The three siblings were sent to the center earlier this week, but as of Thursday the center declined to comment on the kids’ status.
Larry Dubin a law expert from the Detroit deemed the judge actions at least “unusual.” He said that it is highly unusual for a judge to hold in contempt the kids in a custody dispute. Usually, the one who is held in contempt is the spouse who tries to alienate children from the other parent.
