Lose Weight: Stand Up and Walk
If you want to be a healthier person you just have to stand up and walk more. There is no secret here: just by moving more you improve your blood flow and you burn some extra calories. The trick is that standing and walking will not make you the slimmest person in the room, but it might be exactly what you need to get started on having a better life.
The key is to do it as often as possible. Whether you are at work or home, even if you have a job that demands you stay glued to your computer, it’s important that get up and move. Nobody is going to go all Big Brother on you and scold you for moving every 20, 30 or 50 minutes. On the contrary! If they do, there’s definitely something wrong with them, not you.
A new study pointed out how useful standing and moving actually are for your health. Around 800 men and women were examined for one week, taking into account the amount of time spent standing, walking, lying down and sitting.
After using this method scientists collected and compared the volunteer’s weight, blood pressure, wait circumference and height. They also took blood samples to measure fat levels, cholesterol and sugar levels.
Guess what? People who stood more had fat in the blood, lower blood sugar and less cholesterol in their circulatory systems. They also discovered that people who spent an extra 2 hours a day walking had a lower body mass index and lower waistlines (by about 7 to 8 centimeters).
But in the end what did you learn from this study? First of all, you should know that fat, sugar and cholesterol practically make you fat and slow. These are your enemies, but you can’t really deal with them all the time right? So it’s ok if you get up and walk around 10 minutes every hour. It doesn’t matter when, just get up and walk a little.
If you walk 10 minutes every hour at work, you sum up 1 hour and a half of walking extra. That is almost 2 hours! If you walk in the park with your loved one at night you’re going to seal the deal!
Also, this is a very good technique in case you are worried about your health and don’t know where to start. We all know that “what do I do now” feeling. Start small. Walk a little every day and in time it’s all going to pile up. You will be healthier, look sexier and even live longer.
