How cool is it to be sued for stealing someone’s lyrics and then know that they had their papers rejected with your own lyrics? Taylor Swift would know because after she got sued, the judge turned down papers with lyrics from her most well-known songs. Jesse Braham wanted to fight Taylor in court for the fact that “she stole” his lyrics, but it looks like the judge had totally different plans in mind.
The artist known as Jesse Braham wanted to sue Taylor for $42 million under the claims that she stole lyrics from one of his songs and made it to the top of music lists, Braham’s song was entitled Haters Gonna Hate and the same words are also present in Swifts all too famous song “Shake it off”.
Things did not start off well, Judge Gail Standish decided that these accusations were not simply not accurate. Not to mention the fact that they were accompanied by some serious mistakes in Braham’s lawsuit.
It turns out that the lawsuit was poorly written, to say the least, after Braham acted as his own attorney and wrote it down himself. The result? Misspellings, grammar errors and blank spaces that were not supposed to be in an official document. You’re probably thinking what the judge thought when he first saw the papers, right? “Man this guy calls himself an artist and can barely write something down”.
If only the judge had stopped there. But no, he wanted to make things as juicy as they can get, so the judge turned down papers with lyrics from Taylor’s most recognizable songs and rejected in style. Fans can look at the judge’s writings and see the allusions that were made, because they are clearly just out there.
Let’s look at the statement for a little bit: “As currently drafted, the Complaint has a blank space – one that requires Braham to do more than write his name. And, upon consideration of the Court’s explanation in Part II, Braham may discover that mere pleading BandAids will not fix the bullet holes in his case. At least for the moment, Defendants have shaken off this lawsuit.”
There are four little allusions in the statement above and if you are a Taylor Swift fan you might have already seen them by now. Apparently this is not the day in which Taylor Swift falls and hopefully that day will never come. Such a sweet artist should not be swept aside by any self-deemed songwriter who cannot even write a proper official paper.
